- Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to natural skin care products?
With any new product, you should be aware that you run the risk of an allergic reaction. It is always smart to do a patch test on the inside of your arm, using it as directed for the face at least twice, before using. If you are concerned, please do a patch test or call your dermatologist.
- Why do I sometimes notice inconsistencies in the appearance or texture of your product?
msArtisan skincare products are crafted with natural ingredients in small batches to maintain freshness.
This is just what happens. Also, certain fruits and vegetables and other ingredients go in and out of season, so with anything natural, you will notice color or consistency changes, but the product will always do what you bought it to do.
- When can I expect to see results from msArtisan natural skincare products?
It takes skin 28 days to restore itself, and longer as you get older. So we say about a month, give or take a day, depending on your age.
Having said that, you might see results immediately, especially if the other products you have been using prior to msArtisan have had an allergic effect on you, causing contact dermatitis (zits, clogged pores).
This has been the case many times with our customers, who did not realize their product was the culprit! =)
- Why do you suggest using a very warm washcloth before doing a mask?
Always wash face in upward, circular motions. Always do to your neck whatever you do to your face. After washing face, remove residue with a wet cloth and splash several times. Use toner after rinsing to remove any residue and to balance and condition skin. Exfoliate once or twice a week; more if you are oily skinned. We like to do our mask after exfoliating, but you don't have to.
msArtisan suggest using a very warm wash cloth and laying it on your face for five minutes, to open pores. You can also use a face steamer or put your face over a bowl of boiling water, making a towel over your head with a tent. Sometimes simply getting in a hot shower with the door closed will be enough to open the pores. All masks must be dry before removing.
To reactivate a mask, spray with water and leave on until dry. If you feel the need to, you can sleep in any of the masks once they are dry. When removing, cleanse face with your daily cleanser, rinse several times again, apply your moisturizer, and your eye treatment. Always pat your eye treatment on with your pinky or ring finger, so as not to pull delicate tissue. If you follow our suggestions, we know you will see improvements within 28 days!.
- How do I use the masks?
How do I use the masks?
Our masks are really different from what you are usually exposed to. First, being all natural and chemical-free, you can use them either as
1) mask or 2) treatment.
As Mask, apply a thin layer on clean face and rinse off 20mins later. It is unique because you can also gradually increase your masking time to 1 hr, 2 hrs or even overnight.
As Treatment, just take a small amount onto your problematic spots eg. Scar marks or acne, and leave overnight. Repeat this every night till problem ceased.
- Can I apply all your masks overnight?
Not all, but most of them. They can be left overnight, according to your skin condition. A very new & special product range indeed. These are:
1) Lycopene Pectin Enzyme Peel
2) Enzymatic Blemish Masque
3) Berry Berry Vitamin C Mask
4) Vitamin Mineral Cocktail Mask
5) Oat Milk Honey Mask
*note: Not Botanical Purifying Clay Mask
Always do a patch test before leaving on these masks for more than 20mins.
For mask 1) to 3), one should always gradually increase the leave-on period rather than jumping straight to overnight application. Depending on your other skincare, the use of these regularly might cause dryness. Should that happen, always reduce the frequency of usage and adjust accordingly. The frequency and masking time must be adjusted according to your skin response. All you need is common sense and logical thinking to get it right. =)
As treatment, use it on those spots every night, overnight.
For mask 4) & 5), they shouldn't be left overnight because they might stain your pillowcase. Yes, it is merely for this reason that we do not recommend leaving these 2 masks overnight. All our masks are so natural that you can apply a thin layer and leave overnight when needed.
- What if I have problems after using the msArtisan skincare?
If you noticed small bumps, that is MOST likely due to impurities accumulated at the surface as the products/masks aim to detox and draw out impurities. The good news are, MOST of you don't experience that and even if you do, they will soon subside.
If your skin feels dry and you just start using any of our enzyme peel, please apply less (referring to the amount not frequency), and rinse off 10 mins or 15mins later. SLOWLY increasing the leave-on period will be crucial for you then (those with oily skin, the leave-on time is not that important). Oat Milk Honey Mask can counter any dryness or flakiness so do take note of this It is great for healing too.
Small outbreaks might only happen during the initial phase. After which, you shouldn't have this problem at all.
If rashes, itchy red bumps did occur then it is allergic reactions! Stop the products, come back to us for a consultation. We do advise you to get a skin patch test done by a Dermatologist to find out what natural ingredient you are allergic to so you can avoid the irritant in the future.
Unless you've allergy to nuts, algae or certain fruits or plants, you can't go wrong with msArtisan natural skincare products. We are more than 99.5% chemical-free. You can't go wrong with that. =)
- Why does my skin problem return after I stopped using your products?
If your skin problem is due to the use of wrong products (such as pore clogging problems leading to irritations), your skin problem will be under controlled and eventually solved when you switch to our natural, chemical-free, non-clogging products. Assuming you stopped for other commercial products, you still run the risk of using pore-clogging or chemical-laden skin care. Your problem will most probably return.
We are all living organism. What we eat and feed our skin, are constantly used to manufacture new cells.Like a factory, our biological system uses what you supply to produce the related end-products.
Take this illustration for instance:
Mary has unhealthy diets, consuming mainly fried food and hardly takes their greens and fruits but do take tonic once a month to make up for the nutrients vs Jane who eats healthily everyday but does not take monthly tonic. We'll expect Jane to be healthier while Mary is unhealthy and do not see any benefit from the tonic consumption.
This would be the same for your skin care regime. We get what we take.
- There are so many products that claim to be natural, non-comedogenic & dermatologist tested....
There are so many products that claim to be natural, non-comedogenic & dermatologist tested.
Can I just switch to any products I want?
"Natural" is an often misused word.
There are no regulations for declaring the products are "Non-comedogenic" or "Dermatologist-tested" too.
All manufacturers are free to use these to market their products.
If you're able to understand the ingredients listed well, you would be in a better position to judge and forsee which products would be more beneficial for yourself. =)
- Why use msArtisan natural skin care?
Everything we put on our skin get absorbed into our body and stored in the liver. Many cosmetics and skin care products (and body and hair products, etc) contain what the FDA calls the "threshold of no significance", which means there are toxins known to cause cancer in them but not enough to cause a problem.
But if we use ten or fifteen of these products twice a day every day for twenty years, even ten, then weare at a threshold of great significance to our health. Also, many products are not biodegradable, so when they go down the drain after we rinse it off our body, they go from polluting our body to polluting the earth. If it is not biodegradable, that means it has to go somewhere but it won't disappear. This goes for our household products.
Many popular products today offer instant wrinkle reducers, which plump up the skin with irritating chemicals to fill in the crow's feet.
This type of chemical irritation, over a period of time, will lead to more wrinkles! Many products say "fragrance free", but they actually add more fragrances to achieve a non fragrance smell than when they have an obvious fragrance!
That is why we created msArtisan; we wanted a safe, ethical and effective solution to these problems. =)
- What is a skin patch test & How do I do it?
Allergy testing involves having a skin or blood test to determine what substance, or allergen, may trigger an allergic response in a person. Skin tests are usually done because they are rapid, reliable, and generally less expensive than blood tests, but either type of test may be used.
Skin patch test. For a skin patch test, the allergen solution is placed on a pad that is taped to the skin for 24 to 72 hours. This test is used to detect a skin allergy called contact dermatitis.
A skin patch test also uses small doses of the suspected allergen. For this test:
Doses of allergens are placed on patches that look like adhesive bandages.
The patches are then placed on the skin (usually on your back). This usually takes about 40 minutes, depending on how many patches are applied.
You will wear the patches for 24 to 72 hours. Do not take a bath or shower or do any activities that could make you sweat excessively while you are wearing the patches. This could loosen the patches and cause them to fall off.
The patches will be removed by your health professional, and your skin will be checked for signs of an allergic reaction.
DIY Skin Patch Test (Note. This method might not be more reliable than the actual patch testing by a Dermatologist.)
1. Apply small doses of the product to sensitive areas of the skin like behind the ears, the joint of the elbow or joint between toes.
2. Leave the product on for 24 to 72 hours. Do not take a bath or shower or do any activities that could make you sweat excessively that would "wash" off the product.
3. If by the end of the test period, there are no visible signs of allergic reactions which might consists of itchy rashes, redness, swelling and etc. The product is most probably safe to use on the skin.
The major risk with the skin prick test or the intradermal skin test is a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction include itching, wheezing, swelling of the face or entire body, difficulty breathing, and low blood pressure that can lead to shock. An anaphylactic reaction can be life-threatening and is a medical emergency. Emergency care is always needed for an anaphylactic reaction. However, severe allergic reaction is rare, especially with the skin prick test.
If you are having a skin patch test and you have severe itching or pain under any of the patches, remove the patches and call your health professional.
What To Think About
You may not need allergy testing if you have mild allergies that are easily controlled with medication or lifestyle changes.
- Are the easiest and least expensive method for identifying allergies in most people.
- Are more reliable than blood tests for identifying common inhaled (airborne) allergies, such as trees, pollens, dust, mold, and pet fur.
- Cannot determine whether a person is reacting to a certain food. Further testing (such as an elimination diet) may be needed to identify this.
- Can be unpleasant for children and their parents.
- May take as long as 3 to 4 hours.
